Fall River police patrol officers have a new union contract with the city.
The city council Tuesday night approved a four-year deal which includes a retroactive pay increase of 1.5% for FY 2022, 1% for this fiscal year, 1.5% beginning this July and 2% for FY 2025.
Next year the current 11-step wage schedule will be consolidated into three steps with increases after five and ten years of service. This will raise the pay of many officers. Also included in the deal is a change in how much comp time an officer can accrue and later be paid.
Mayor Paul Coogan says other provisions in the new contract will make the city competitive with other communities in recruiting and retaining police officers.
