The City of Fall River will be using $2 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to fund free programs for youth across the city.
The For Youth Initiative is aimed to provide low and middle-income families in Fall River the opportunity to qualify for scholarships to take part in extra-curricular activities. The activities will be offered by local small businesses and non-profit organizations that were adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The initiative was proposed by Fall River City Councilor Laura Washington who sought an outlet for local youth who faced physical and/or socio economic struggles through the pandemic.
Mayor Paul Coogan says the initiative will offer well-rounded and safe activities for youth.
Applications will soon be available for interested vendors to apply for funds. The Boys & Girls Club of Fall River is administering the program on behalf of the city. The list of participating vendors will be distributed to families and will be available on the city’s website.
