The special committee reviewing the city charter held another meeting this week. The panel voted to recommend a change in the number of registered voters needed to nominate a candidate for the municipal city election ballot.
Currently, 300 signatures of voters are needed for candidates to run for mayor and 150 for those seeking seats on the city council or school committee.
Committee member Daniel Robillard wanted the number of signatures lowered to 50 for each race, which had been the norm prior to the charter being changed in 2017.
The committee did not agree with Mr. Robillard’s suggestion, instead voting to recommend lowering the signature requirements to 100 for each race.
