Bristol Community College is offering a free course for high school students in Fall River and New Bedford to get a taste of the college experience.
Bristol President Dr. Laura Douglas says the CollegeTrax program, funded through private donations, strives to improve the prospects that more local students will choose a college career after high school. Bristol County ranks the highest in Massachusetts for the percent of the population ages 25 or over without a high school diploma.
The first of four CollegeTrax classes, with 20 students apiece, began in early October and will end on December 18. Dr. Douglas hopes funding will be made available to keep the program going.
Meanwhile, the fall 2020 semester is only a few weeks away from completion. Dr. Douglas says the entire college community has come together since March to ensure that all students gain the education they need, be it through a remote or in-person learning environment.
Bristol plans to continue its hybrid learning model when classes resume for the spring semester in late January.
