Included in the state budget passed this week by the legislature is increased funding for Bristol Community College and other community colleges across the Commonwealth.
The cornerstone of the package is called MassReconnect, a program where students 25 and older, who have no degree or are looking to return to college, can do so for free.
Bristol president Dr. Laura Douglas says the program will begin this fall, and interested students can get started right away by completing the Free Federal Application For Student Aid or fafsa.
President Douglas says it is estimated that 1.8 million Massachusetts residents may be eligible for MassReconnect, with a sizeable number within Bristol’s service area.
Another program funded in the state budget will pay for the community college education for prospective nursing students.
President Douglas says staff at the college are prepared to help students register for MassReconnect in time for the start of classes in September.
