Massachusetts Fourth District Congressman Jake Auchincloss last week was one of a handful of Democrats in the House to vote against the budget for the Department of Defense. Part of the reasoning for his no vote was language that could jeopardize the growth of the offshore wind industry in the SouthCoast.
Congressman Auchincloss says the provision calls for strict regulation as to who can serve on specialized vessels that transport wind turbine parts to their offshore construction sites.
The congressman also voted no because he feels the Defense Department budget is too big.

The number of work days for Congress is limited for the rest of the year with members in their home districts during August and October in preparation for election day. Congressman Auchincloss says his focus before Congress adjourns, regardless of Senate support, is the passage of elements of President Biden’s Build Back Better plan on healthcare and combatting climate change.
