Massachusetts Fourth District Congressman Jake Auchincloss, who represents Fall River, hosted an in-person town hall at Government Center this past Saturday afternoon.
Approximately 50 residents were on hand and invited to ask questions of the Congressman and provide feedback on how he can better serve the district. Inflation and affordability were brought up on a number of different occasions, with the cost of housing being a primary concern. The Congressman said finding affordable housing continues to be a huge problem and leaders at the federal and state level are working toward solutions.
The Congressman said he doubts Congress will take up increasing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the coming term to help offset losses due to the end of the pandemic. He also supports President Biden’s plan to raise taxes on the wealthy.
Auchincloss said there can be no delay in ensuring Congress passes an extension to raising the country’s debt limit later this spring.
In terms of immigration policy, Congressman Achincloss said the discussion needs to center around a multi-pronged, bipartisan plan.
The Congressman also challenged Republicans to come to the table to discuss what is considered bipartisan support for common-sense gun legislation.
