Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey visited Fall River this week to get a first-hand look at River to Recovery, a center striving to provide a safe, substance-free space for those in recovery.
Healey’s office has provided financial support to allow River to Recovery to hire a much-needed recovery coach to assist those in the Hispanic community get into recovery. She said her office continues to pursue opioid drugmakers in making them pay for the harm their narcotics have inflicted upon those who get addicted.
River to Recovery Executive Director Kevin Doyle says the center on Pleasant Street has been effective in getting those addicted into recovery. The pandemic slowed down that progress, with the center serving nearly 500 people a week pre-pandemic and only about 250 people today.
