Prior to this year, the Atlantis Charter School summer program was essentially an extension of the school’s academic offerings. The program has morphed into more of a camp atmosphere with academics and social-emotional skills-building mixed in.
Ms. Simonis says students in the camp are broken down into grade levels and rotate among a half dozen or so activities. She says they begin and end each day as a group, which in itself provides its own positive experience.
The four-week camp ends this week and Ms. Simonis says over that time she has witnessed a transformation on the part of many students.
Students say they enjoyed their experience at camp.
