As the weather cools and we continue to focus on COVID-19, we also need to keep a keen eye on the seasonal flu.
Last year, as people were wearing masks and social distancing, instances of the seasonal flu were below pre-pandemic levels. Dr. Eric Vaught, Chief Medical Officer at HealthFirst Family Care Center, believes the upcoming flu season will be more impactful than a year ago but because of the availability of the flu vaccine, levels of infection will likely resemble a normal year.
Dr. Vaught says if someone experiences flu-like symptoms, it is possible the infection may be the seasonal flu or COVID-19.
Dr. Vaught says now is the time to get the flu vaccine.
