Proposed water, sewer, base meter, and storm water rate hikes will be discussed on Tuesday, May 23rd by the City Council Committee on Ordinances and Legislation. The discussion is part of the fiscal year 2018 budget items.
The Administrator of Community Utilities Terry Sullivan submitted his proposals for increases in his sewer and water enterprise fund budgets to the council per city ordinance.
The current water user fee per 100 cubic feet is $2.87. That number could increase to $2.96. Sewer user fees per 100 cubic feet are $5.28 with a suggested increase to $5.33.
The average quarterly base meter fee is currently at $12, which could increase to $14, and the average quarterly storm water fee would see an increase from $40 to $43.
Sullivan calculated that an average family using approximately 109 gallons of water a day will see an increase in their water and sewer bills go from approximately $640 a year to $667 a year.
With a sewer budget of $21.9 million, and water budget of $12.4 million, Sullivan said in Fiscal Year 2018 there are increases of 1.7 percent and 4.7 percent respectively.
The reason for the rate hikes center on the ongoing financial responsibility the city has in connection with the Combined Sewer Overflow Project, which must be dealt with under federal mandate, and has been ongoing for decades.
The City Council Committee on Ordinances and Legislation meets tomorrow evening at Government Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
