Police arrested 16 year old Joel Lopez and charged him with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 29 year old Fall River Man Monday night.
Reportedly, the victim, Jerrod Cohen was outside an apartment complex at 129 Plain Street Monday night when police received a 911 call about the shooting. After an extensive police investigation, Lopez was arrested, held briefly and was to be arraigned July 12th, but a lack of defense attorneys to represent him deferred the arraignment until today, July 13th.
Police arrested Lopez on Harrison Street Tuesday. Allegedly, the suspect shot Cohen in the chest. The victim stumbled into a first floor apartment and fell to the floor. Cohen was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Published reports say Cohen was a family man and the last words he spoke to those around him referred to the safety of his children. Police say since early April there have been dozens of 911 calls to the apartment complex location, although none of the investigations involved arrests or even written reports.
