FRC Media News continues to monitor traffic delays and detours around the city this summer, as the mayor’s ongoing streetscape project continues to affect various areas during these summer months. To date, the parking lot that abuts Government Center and the United States Post Office remains closed, which affects the social service, non-profit agency People’s Incorporated located at 4 South Main Street. Here is information about how the construction is affecting people going to that office taken directly from the People Incorporated Website.
Please note the following road and parking closures near our headquarters in Fall River:
Road Closure
Due to an ongoing construction project in Downtown Fall River, Bedford Street will be closed periodically throughout the summer to all vehicles. Please continue to check our website for details on closure dates as work progresses. The shut down will occur on Bedford Street from Rock Street to the North Main Intersection. Drivers should use High Street if they are heading north and Third Street to get to the south end or to access 195 east/west.
Parking Lot Closures
Throughout the summer, the People Incorporated visitor lot on Bedford Street may be behind road closure barriers. If so, visitors to People Incorporated must alert and identify themselves to the detail police officer to gain access to the parking lot. Due to traffic delays, we caution visitors to leave themselves plenty of extra travel time! Please continue to check our website for details on closure dates as work progresses. Until at least mid-August, the parking lot adjacent to the People Incorporated building at 4 South Main Street (located directly behind the United States Post Office located at 2 Government Center) is completely closed to all vehicles.
Pedestrian notice
Due to the ongoing construction, pedestrians should take extreme care in the downtown area near our 4 South Main Street location as traffic patterns are expected to change often, and the roadways and sidewalks will regularly be disrupted. We caution visitors to leave themselves plenty of travel time due to traffic delays in this area.
