The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will join the other UMass campuses in launching a program next fall that will provide free tuition and mandatory fees to in-state students with a family income of $75,000 or less.

The UMass Dartmouth Deal will begin in the Fall of 2025 and is anticipated to aid around 1,500 undergraduate students. Along with the income guidelines eligible students must have a high school GPA of at least 2.7 or SAT/ACT score equivalent. They must apply for a degree and register for at least 12 credits a semester.

If a student maintains satisfactory academic status, the award will last up to four years.

UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Mark Fuller, himself a first-generation college student, said the UMass Dartmouth Deal will be of great benefit to working-class families in the Commonwealth.

The announcement of the program was made at Durfee High School, where principal Jessica Stephens said the UMass Dartmouth Deal will allow for more Durfee graduates to afford a higher education.

The UMass Deal will also guarantee a room for students in on-campus housing but fees for room and board are not covered by the program.
