New Art Exhibits at The Ignition Space Explore Altruistic Surrogacy and Future Climate Evolution
The Fall River Arts & Culture Coalition (FRACC) will present two upcoming exhibitions, “Nurture” and “Lithobates,” at The Ignition Space, 341 S. Main St, Fall River, from November 23 to January 6. Featuring the works of local artists Megan O. Kenealy and Arianne Barrett, both Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Visual Arts candidates at Bridgewater State University, these exhibits fulfill their thesis requirements for graduation.
“Nurture” intimately explores Megan O. Kenealy’s altruistic surrogacy journey, presenting a chronological exploration through various mediums such as hair, medical documents, medication, tins, breast milk, and collected personal items. Kenealy, an art teacher at Abington High School, skillfully weaves her personal experiences into the exhibition, challenging preconceptions surrounding surrogacy and providing a visual narrative that transcends the often unseen aspects of this profound experience. Scheduled to receive her MAT in Visual Arts in December, Kenealy brings a wealth of insight to this thought-provoking exhibition.
Arianne Barrett’s “Lithobates” focuses on the possible evolutions New England could experience due to climate change. Barrett, originally from Easton, Massachusetts, holds a BFA in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and teaches at King Philip Regional School District in Norfolk. The series presents a fantastical future where American Bullfrogs adapt to landscape changes caused by pollution and global warming. Through drawings and ceramic sculptures, Barrett explores nature’s resilience and adaptation in the face of environmental shifts. This work serves as her thesis project for her Master’s degree at Bridgewater State University.
The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday, December 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at The Ignition Space, offering a firsthand exploration of these diverse and compelling exhibitions.
