In the days and weeks following the Gabriel House Assisted Living facility fire, Catholic Charities Diocese of Fall River provided clothing and personal items to the 60 residents who survived. That effort is in its final stages.
The fire claimed the lives of ten residents with thirty others injured. It was the deadliest fire in the city in 150 years and the deadliest in Massachusetts since 1985. In the first week following the fire, Catholic Charities was inundated with donations, an act not fully appreciated by the staff and volunteers organizing the donations for distribution at the time.
Any material not distributed to the survivors will be made available by Catholic Charities as part of its ongoing basic needs support within the community.
With that campaign nearing an end, Catholic Charities will continue its ongoing effort to provide housing support to those in need across the Diocese.
