According to a report in the Fall River Herald News, the top two floors of the Redevelopment Authority-owned parking garage at Third Street was shut down by the city’s building inspector Joe Biszko, and city engineer JR Frey due to structural issues.

The structure was inspected on Wednesday, May 3rd, and in a letter to the Redevelopment Bisko ordered the third floor closed today. Biszko stated the remaining floors can remain open for now, but he intends to close the entire complex if deterioration continues.

RDA is contracted with the company Partnership for Better Parking to manage the parking garage, which was inspected in March by a structural engineering firm that found significant structural damage and reinforcements exposed and corroded. At that time it was determined there is a risk of concrete dislodging and falling to the level below, according to a report submitted by Becker Structural Engineers.

Biszko writes in his cease and desist order that he was made aware of the structural report May 3rd. The partial closure of the RDA’s parking garage comes one day before the RDA board is expected to decide on whether to accept Mayor Jasiel Correia’s proposed reorganization of the agency.
