State legislators are gearing up to consider the $40.5 billion dollar state budget proposed by Governor Charlie Baker for fiscal year 2018. That amount is an increase of $1.65 billion, or 4.3 percent, over projected spending in the current fiscal year, that ends June 30th. The budget proposal will go first to the house this month, which will develop its own version, then move on to the senate. A final budget must be signed into law by July 1st.
