FROM: JOHN KEARNS, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, FALL RIVER DIOCESE
DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 2019
Some 350-plus parishioners from across the Fall River Diocese will gather with Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., Thursday evening, February 7, at White’s of Westport, to launch their work as members of Strategic Planning Commissions with prayer, reflection and celebration.
The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Members of the media are invited to attend the event.
Those who will be in attendance responded to an earlier invitation from Bishop da Cunha to take part in this planning process, to -as the Bishop wrote- “come together to imagine and develop the kind of Diocesan services and ministries that can better support our parishes.”
They were invited to sign up online to serve on one of three planning commissions: Catholic Social Services Commission; Youth and Young Adult Commission; and Diocesan/Chancery Governance Commission (whose subcommittees will address communications, human resources, finance, and property and real estate).
Thursday’s kickoff meeting will begin with a general assembly for all participants to include remarks from Bishop da Cunha and a lay commission member, prayer and music. Participants will then separate into their respective commissions for the second part of the meeting to begin their work.
It is anticipated that the commissions will meet monthly through late spring/early summer to put forth recommendations to help chart the course of the Diocese as it moves forward in each area under study.
