An exhibit of photographs taken by over 30 adult English-language learners who have made their home in Fall River opens next month at the Narrows Center for the Arts.
Titled “Through Our Eyes,” the exhibit features the work of students at Southeastern Massachusetts SER-Jobs for Progress, Inc., a Fall River nonprofit that provides adult education, training, and employment services. It was funded by MassHumanities, SER-Jobs for Progress, and the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at UMass Dartmouth.
According to a news release, the students’ photographs reveal “hopes and dreams and what it has been like to leave a homeland in order to make a new life for themselves and their children in the U.S.” Themes range from cooking and sharing food to city neighborhoods, nature, and family and friends.
The exhibit opening will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on March 23. It is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain on view until April 27. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12 – 5 PM. For more information call 508-324-1926 or 508-676-1916, or email aklimt@umassd.edu.
