The Fall River Housing Authority plans to discuss a correspondence from Mayor Jasiel Correia ll about complying with the new trash removal initiative that starts May 9th.

It is the mayor’s desire to impose penalties to landlords and residents who are not properly using the purple bags to dispose of their trash. At a news conference last month, Correia announced that since the implication of the purple bag program overseen by Waste Zero and which began in August of 2014, the city lost about a million dollars in revenue due to non-compliance fines not being enforced.

Warning letters to landlords and residents went out last week and fines will be imposed beginning Monday, May 9th for those in non-compliance. At no extra cost to the city, Waste Zero plans to monitor who is not adhering to the rules and reporting them to the proper authorities.

Fines for those in non compliance, which start at $100.00, will double after the first week. The Housing Authority will meet on Monday, May 9th to discuss how to ensure the purple trash bags are properly being used by residents of the city’s housing complexes which are multi-units and may cause more of a problem because of the number of residents involved.

The Housing Authority meeting will be held Monday, May 9th at 5:00 p.m. at 85 Morgan Street. The meeting is open to the public.
