Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn announced a county-wide initiative at Battleship Cove today, April 26th. The aim is to stem substance abuse in young people, reducing underage drinking and preventing tragedy for families this prom and graduation season. The event also detailed a new program, spearheaded by the District Attorney’s Office and carried out by all 20 Bristol County police departments, to stop the flow of opiates and other prescription pills from authorized users to family members or friends with addiction problems. Police Sgt. Timothy Sousa of Fairhaven spoke about the need to ensure un ussed prescription pills are discarded properly so they are not readily available for ingestion by young people seeking to get high and then perhaps hooked:
