Local unemployment rates dropped in twenty-two labor market areas and remained the same in two areas in the state during the month of August.
That from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. Compared to August 2015, the rates were down in all areas.
From August 2015 to August 2016, all fifteen areas added jobs with the largest percentage gains in the Haverhill-Newburyport-Amesbury, Peabody-Salem-Beverly, Taunton-Middleborough-Norton, and Leominster-Gardner areas.
In order to compare the statewide rate to local unemployment rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the statewide unadjusted unemployment rate for August was 3.8 percent.
Last week, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent for the month of August. The unemployment rate is down 0.9 percent over the year.
The statewide seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed a 5,900 job gain in August and an over-the-year gain of 68,100 jobs.
