In a recent vote by the Fall River School Committee, it has been decided that the Spencer Borden Elementary School will get it’s Technology Ed Facilitator position back.
The job was one of 46 positions cut due to 2017 budget constraint issues. At a recent school committee meeting the vote to reinstate the position came after School Committee Chairman Mayor Jasiel Correia supported the position be reinstated. If not, he said, then Spencer Borden would be the only district school not to have a technology instructor.
Melissa Panchley voted against the idea, saying she wanted to know how the position would be funded before she could vote ‘yes’ in good conscience.
The Tech Ed Facilitator job pays approximately $72 thousand dollars a year, and was cut last spring when principals were asked by the administration to propose 3% budget cuts. Since Spencer Borden does not have extended learning time, which was cut at other schools, the Tech Ed Facilitator position was part of that educational institution’s budget cuts.
