In light of the thirteen count federal indictment against Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia, the city council will hold a special meeting Tuesday, October 16th, 2018. Council President Cliff Ponte sent a press release out recently that states as council president he is calling the meeting to… ‘discuss the recent criminal indictment of Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia II, and any motions the city council may propose regarding the leadership of our city.’
Mayor Correia is charged with wire fraud and filing false tax returns in connection with his business SnoOwl. Federal prosecutors allege Correia stole over $200 thousand dollars from investors and used the money to finance a “lavish” lifestyle, that included, among other things, paying for hotel rooms, a Mercedes, and adult entertainment.
Meanwhile…Correia pleaded “Not Guilty” during his arraignment in a Boston court, calling the charges against him ‘bogus’ adding he wants his day in court to clear his name. Correia has also refused to resign, declaring after his arraignment last week that he has ‘done nothing wrong as mayor.’
The special city council meeting is scheduled for 6:00 pm this coming Tuesday and will be held in the council chamber. Citizens input will be welcomed at that time.
