A special meeting has been scheduled by Fall River City Council Preisdent Cliff Ponte in connection with funding a new B.M.C. Durfee High School.
At the council’s regularly scheduled meeting this week, the vote to schedule a special election in March to ask voters to approve $260 million dollars to fund the construction of a new Durfee High School stalled when Councilor Steven Camara objected to establishing the election date. Once Camara’s vote was made, the issue died and either had to be moved onto the agenda for the next council session or be taken up at a special meeting that, as council president, Ponte is responsible to schedule.
The day after the Camara objection, Ponte promised to set an emergency council meeting to continue the discussion and voting process, which he did.
