According to a news article in today’s Fall River Herald News, SouthCoast Health, the company that runs Charlton Memorial Hospital has announced 95 employees will be laid off Wednesday, March 30st due to fiscal constraints.

In a letter to employees, Hospital President Keith Hovan explained that the layoffs follow a $30 million dollar loss in fiscal year 2014, and a six percent increase in expenditures during the first half of this fiscal year. Even though a $5 million dollar surplus was realized in 2015, Hovan says the layoffs are necessary to stabilize expenses.

In addition to Charlton, SouthCoast Health runs St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and Tobey Hospital in Wareham. For the full article click the link below.
