Beacon Hill in Boston will be the primary site of the so called, “March for Social Work Values,” event held each year by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

The March will draw out a record breaking 800 social workers who plan to start their march from Fanueil Hall to the State House where they will convene in the lobby for this purpose: To empower social workers to effectively advocate for legislation that advances human rights, racism, economic justice, and access to health and mental health care – all the more important in 2017 given the policies, budget priorities, and perceived threats coming from Washington.

The first priority for may social workers will be the Social Work Loan Forgiveness Bill establishing a pilot program for young professionals aimed at building the workforce in undeserved agencies, and including elder services and child welfare. Other topics of concern: advocating for increased treatment for opiate abusers, ending mass incarceration, instituting better mental health access, and other social work issues that will be the forefront in related legislative bills.
