BMC Durfee High School not only went into lockdown this morning, Monday, October 24th, but classes were also cancelled for the rest of the day. This after a photograph of of a gun circulated in Snapchat with a message that the gun was inside Durfee High. School officials locked the school down immediately upon notification, and parents were notified by phone. As a result parents swarmed to the main entrance where a police officer emerged from the building briefly to say no one was going inside or outside the building.
Fifteen minutes later, Fall River Police Lt. Paul Bernier emerged from the building and faced the growing crowd of parents to tell them that School Superintendent Dr. Matthew Malone was inside the cafeteria to speak with them.
When the parents and guardians attended, All Dr. Malone said was that there was a photograph of a firearm on a Snapchat around 11:30 a.m. this morning, a search was made, but there was no threat that went along with the message.
“Two students were involved in a situation,” Malone said. “We are searching the building for another student.”
