Households who receive food assistance benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can now purchase food online at Amazon and Walmart.

Nearly two weeks ago the state announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved the Commonwealth to take part in a pilot program that will allow households who receive food assistance benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase groceries online with electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards.  The first phase of the program will allow SNAP recipients to purchase food from Amazon and Walmart.

Both vendors will display which items are SNAP-eligible either prior to purchase or after items are placed in their virtual shopping cart.  Recipients may be responsible for shipping and delivery fees, based on their purchases.
