Sheriff Unveils New Training Facility, Has No Interest in Bringing Back Detention Center

Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux today hosted a tour of the department’s new training facility adjacent to the House of Corrections in North Dartmouth.

Sheriff Heroux says the building used for the new training center was once the former ICE Detention Center built by former Sheriff Tom Hodgson which closed in 2021.

The sheriff says new recruits seeking to become correction officers, and law enforcement agencies within the region, will benefit from the use of the new facility.

President-Elect Donald Trump campaigned on executing mass deportation of undocumented migrants when he returns to office. Sheriff Heroux says he is not interested in reviving the practice of arresting and detaining those who are undocumented in Bristol County.

The sheriff says even though he will not bring back the detention facility he will obey the law and assist Federal authorities on any investigations which may involve inmates at the jail.
