A bill filed in memory of Hannah Raposo – the BMC Durfee High School student who lost her life in a car accident last year – will go before the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight at the State House tomorrow, April 11th.
The bill was filed by State Representative Alan Silvia back in October per the request of former Fall River City Councilor Mike Miozza who lost his granddaughter (Hannah Raposo) in a car accident while she was driving to her prom last June.
“My granddaughter was not wearing her seatbelt at thet time,” Miozza told FRC Media news in a recent interview. “If she had been, I’m sure she would be alive today, since the passenger in the car, who was wearing a seatbelt, survived with only minor injuries.”
Miozza asked Silvia to file the bill so Governor Charles Baker could pronounce the month of June Seatbelt Safety Awareness month. He plans to attend tomorrow’s hearing with family, and with signed petitions from people who want the Governor to make the proclamation to be observed in June on an annual basis. He hopes it will pass quickly, and in time to bring awareness to safety issues during the upcoming prom season.
