At Monday’s Fall River School Committee meeting, Superintendent Dr. Matthew Malone announced that most students will remain in a modified hybrid learning model through February, with a goal of returning to its full hybrid model on March 1.
Dr. Malone said the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the city has caused him to amend his decision made last month to return to the full hybrid model of learning for K-8 grades on January 19 and students in the high school on February 1. He said with prospects of a wider vaccine rollout next month, it is likely local infection rates will ease to a point to make it safe for students to return to the full hybrid model by March 1.
Dr. Malone said his decision was made to give parents proper notice to make arrangements for their children to continue to learn remotely. He added that if infection rates decrease by the school committee’s next meeting on February 8, it is possible students could return to its full hybrid model earlier than March 1.
Students who are deemed to be high risk and special needs will continue to be the only group attending classes in-person.
