The Fall River School Committee last night voted to appoint former Massachusetts Secretary of Education and former Brockton School Superintendent Matthew Malone to lead the city’s school district beginning July 1st.
The committee took two votes on the appointment. On the first vote Malone received the support of four members of the committee: Gabriel Andrade, Paul Coogan, Joseph Martins and Melissa Panchley. Three members, Mayor Jasiel Correia, Mark Costa, and Ed Costar voted for finalist Charles Grandson. The committee then took a second vote confirming Malone’s appointment unanimously.
Malone will replace outgoing superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown who is leaving the city to lead the Barnstable School District.
