Last month ground was broken on the long-awaited reconstruction of Rte. 79. Last night the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT) provided more details on construction, which begins this month.
Design manager Jonathan Kapust says care will be taken to minimize the impact within the waterfront neighborhood between now and when the construction project is complete in 2026.
Construction will take place in four stages. Project manager Stephen Cobb says over the next month residents will begin to see work on the site.
When the project is complete residents will have easier access from downtown to the waterfront and it will open up approximately 19 acres of land available to the city for development.
