The twenty year old driver of a car that struck and fatally injured a Fall River man while he was crossing the street on Plymouth Avenue last fall had no charges filed against her. That information was recently released by the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.

The driver was traveling in the northbound lane closest to the median, according to police reports, when the driver struck 50 year old Paul Dupra as he was crossing Plymouth Avenue 40 feet away from a well marked crosswalk. The posted speed limit is 30 miles an hour on that roadway. At the time of the accident, the weather condition was steady rain and slick services.

Dupras was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after the accident and died the next day as a result of his injuries. The family took him off life support, and Dupras became an organ donor.

The driver of the vehicle was summonsed into court at a date a few days after the accident, and charged with negligent operation of a 2008 Dodge passenger car.

Police reports indicate that she had been traveling northbound on Plymouth Avenue through a green light at Niagra Street on a green signal.  The driver, who appeared distraught at the scene, told police she did not see the victim when she struck him. Fall River Police found no use of her cell phone, and no signs of impairment. Following that intensive investigation, the DA’s office dropped the charges against the woman driver.
