The St. Anne’s Church Preservation Society is making progress in the renovation of the historic shrine on South Main Street.

Just in the last month staging has been erected and work has begun on making repairs to the roof on the south side of the late 19th century church. The next step will be making repairs to the interior of the shrine.

With the help of private donations, two areas of the chapel downstairs are being renovated and will be completed by early spring.

Mr. Gauvin says the City of Fall River has been extremely helpful in providing guidance and resource recommendations to the Preservation Society. The price tag to fully renovate the historic church has been reduced in half to between six and seven million dollars. The Preservation Society is nearly five years into a ten-year lease with the Diocese of Fall River to restore the church. Mr. Gauvin says he’s hopeful the goal of the project will be reached.

Those interested in donating to the Preservation Society’s Capital Campaign or helping to defray the operating expenses of the shrine can do so online.
