The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA), which provides public bus service in Fall River and New Bedford, is partnering with its colleagues in Taunton and Brockton to pilot a service linking the three communities.

The Gateway Link service departs from the Fall River bus terminal and Bristol Community College with stops in Taunton and Brockton through an interoperability agreement among SRTA, the Greater Attleboro Taunton Transit Authority (GATRA), and Brockton Area Transit (BAT).  The service, which allows passengers to ride fare-free,  began in early August and has been well-received.

Ms. DeFarias says the current schedule provides service on weekdays.

SRTA Administrator Erik Rousseau says the Gateway Link expands upon what is already a robust public transportation system across the SouthCoast.

The pilot program is being funded through early next August via an allocation of funds from the state’s Millionaires’ Tax Fair Share Amendment. It is hoped that if successful, the service could become part of the transit authorities’ future.
