There are now three candidates running for the mayoral post in the upcoming September 17th preliminary election in Fall River. Earlier today, Erica Scott-Pacheco went to the Board of Elections office, and pulled nomination papers to run against Incumbent Mayor Jasiel Correia II, and a third candidate, School Committeeman Paul Coogan.
Both Scott-Pacheco, and Coogan ran against Correia in the March recall election. Both lost the seat to the incumbent mayor, with Scott-Pacheco the last runner up with 740 votes.
In accordance with the new City Charter, the mayoral candidates are required to collect 300 signatures from registered Fall River voters before their names can appear on the ballot. While Mayor Correia began collecting signatures having pulled papers on June 21st, Coogan submitted the signatures he collected on June 5th.
Once the preliminary election is held, the final election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th. Board of Elections Chair Kelly Souza-Young urges residents to register to vote in the upcoming election if they haven’t already done so.
