According to an August 24th Forbes article, Quequechan River Rail Trail has led to a 66% increase in walking and biking in Fall River, and “will play a key role in a long-term plan to link Providence, R.I., to Provincetown, Mass., by bike.”

The article, “Five Parks That Have Connected Communities Vie For One Award,” discusses the places in the running for the Urban Land Institute (ULI)’s 2018 Urban Open Space Award.  Quequechan River Rail Trail is one of five finalists, along with parks in China, Spain, Houston, and St. Louis.

The award recognizes open spaces “that have been instrumental in promoting healthy, sustainable, and equitable outcomes in communities,” according to ULI.

Finalists in the competition are judged on criteria including design, community benefits, and the demonstration of value. The award winner will be announced in October and will receive a prize of $10,000.
