Even though Fall River residents usually know by this time whether or not to use purple trash bags during Christmas week, that is not the case this year.
The resolution to institute a Purple Bag Amnesty Program was submitted by Councilor Pam Laliberte-Lebeau with the hopes that it would be approved during the last council meeting. Unfortunately, that did not happen when Councilor Shawn Cadmine objected to numerous matters, saying the council was not given sufficient notice to discuss them beforehand. Laliberte-Lebeau’s resolution was among those matters and, therefore, will be on the agenda at the next full council meeting scheduled for December 18th.
According to City Council Clerk Colleen Taylor, the resolution to nix the purple bags is a little late in being approved this year, which doesn’t give residents much time to plan before the Christmas holiday.
“We are asking residents to be patient and wait until after the December 18th meeting to see if the amnesty program will be put into effect for the third year in a row,” she said.
