Meeting in special session recently, the Fall River School Committee voted unanimously to adopt a job description for the position of school superintendent. This was followed by a 6 to 1 vote in favor of advertising a salary range between $170 and $200 thousand dollars a year, with Committee Member Joseph Martins voting against. Martins said because the average median income in the city is $36 thousand dollars annually, he thinks a $200 thousand dollar salary is too high for our area.
Meanwhile, after some discussion, the job description was amended from the one on file with the district’s human resources department. In a bid to attract more prospective candidates, School Committee members, Gabe Andrade, Edward Costar, and Paul Coogan agreed to reduce the number of qualifications listed on the job description.
Committee member Melissa Panchley-Karam says would like someone hired by mid-June. Current School Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown is leaving that position at the end of this fiscal year which ends June 30th.
