At news conference Wednesday, March 2nd, Mayor Jasiel Correia II and Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodson announced the city will participate in the Sheriff’s Community Work Program.
That means that inmates dressed in jumpsuits will be seen around Fall River cleaning up litter in city parks or painting rails along highway overpasses and the like.
The inmates will be under guard, are are sent to Massachusetts communities to participate in beautification projects, including graffiti clean up and landscaping.
Mayor Correia says he wants to clean up the city overall “neighborhood by neighborhood.”
“The weather is getting nicer, and we want to make sure we have clean streets for the summer,” Correia said, adding that his administration will be gathering input from neighborhood association leaders to determine what areas of the city need immediate cleaning up.
