Voter turnout in Thursday’s primary election – September 8th – is expected to be low in Fall River.
“I would be surprised if 17 percent of the city’s approximately forty-nine registered voters turn out for the primary,” says Liz Camara who heads the Board of elections. “More people are interested in this year’s presidential primary, I think, although I encourage everyone to turn out to the polls.”
Voters across Massachusetts will be voting for offices that include state legislators, county sheriffs, congressmen, county commissioners and district attorneys.
In Fall River, all the offices are unopposed, except for Congressman William Richard Keating who is the democratic nominee for the 9th Bristol District. Two republicans are running against Keating: Mark C. Alliegro and Thomas Joseph O’Malley Jr.
Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.
