Voter turnout in the September 12th preliminary election in Fall River was low as was predicted by the city’s Board of Election Chairperson Liz Camara. Only 18% of the city’s approximately 47,500 registered voters turned out at the polls to vote for who they want to see head to the final election in November for the positions of mayor and school committee. The two top vote getters for the mayoral post were Incumbent Mayor Jasiel F. Correia II, and City Council Vice President Linda Pereira. Correia received 45.76 percent of the votes, as compared to Pereira who earned the second slot with 36.87 percent of the total votes. The two will now face off on November 7th.

Meanwhile: Sean Connell was the single school committee candidate to be nixed from the final election ballot. The other names that will appear are listed here in alphabetical order:

  • Kevin Aguiar
  • Amy M. Blanchette
  • Paul Coogan
  • Mark Costa
  • David B. Cowen Jr.
  • Susan Gancarski Dunse
  • Kristen N. Gauvin
  • Joshua E. Hetzler
  • Thomas Khoury
  • Joseph Martins
  • Crystal O. Stone
  • Jessica Wong

Voters will also turn out in November to cast their votes for city council, and will answer two ballot questions: One on whether to change the antiquated city charter and the other in reference to Combined Sewer Overflow project funding.
