Although there were no reported injuries, Fall River Police report that at least eight gunshots were fired Monday afternoon near the intersection of Tecumseh Street, and Plymouth Avenue. A parked car was struck by gunfire near that area. Witnesses described hearing eight to ten gunshots, and say they spotted four young men, in their late teens or early 20’s, running west of Tecumseh Street through backyards and jumping over fences.
The suspects were believed to be wearing hooded sweatshirts, and one of them held a black semi-automatic handgun when they all ran off, according to neighbors who reported what they witnessed to a Fall River Herald News reporter.
It was also reported that two other men ran across Plymouth Avenue toward Fourth Street after the gunfire rang out. The car that sustained damage was from a bullet that slammed into the driver’s side door. The vehcile is owned by Jake Coutinho, who told police he heard gunfire while inside his home. He said he had planned to leave his house around 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, but had been delayed for a few minutes. Coutinho believed that had he been on time he might have been shot.
Police continue to investigate. Anyone with more information can call the police department at (508) 676-8511. Anonymous tips can also be reported.
