The 7th Annual Polar Plunge scheduled to take place in Fall River on New Year’s Day has been postponed. Mayor Jasiel Correia, who had planned to take a dip in the icy ocean water, put off the fundraiser due to recent bitter cold weather. The fundraiser is used to benefit Forever Paws Animal Shelter located at 300 Lynnwood Street in the city. Shelter President Gail Furtado tells FRC Media News, that while she is disappointed with the postponement, she understands the reasoning, adding she would not want anyone to suffer the adverse affects that can be caused by taking the plunge into below freezing cold water temperatures.
“I must say past Polar Plunges have benefited our no kill animal shelter immensely,” Furtado said adding that, “Last year we were awarded a $4,000 check from the proceeds.”
While the Polar Plunge may or may not be rescheduled, Furtado says the shelter will still, of course, accept donations.
“Every little bit helps us take care and find homes for the pets we have up for adoption,” she says.
