Next Steps For New BMC Durfee High School Construction

Now that Fall River voters said “Yes” to a Proposition Two and a Half/Debt Exclusion override to help pay for a new BMC Durfee High School, Mayor Jasiel Correia is moving the plan forward. The next step is for Correia to ask the City Council to approve a request for the city to borrow the full amount of the project that totals $263 million dollars. The Massachusetts Building Authority will pay its share of $165 million by paying the city back in increments as the planning and construction work gets done. If all goes as expected, the new school will be ready to open in September of 2021.
