Fall River’s New School Superintendent Matthew Malone is expected to start his first day in that position today, succeeding Meg Mayo-Brown.
During a quick School Committee Meeting June 30th, the $183 thousand dollar a year contract was signed between Malone and committee members chaired by Mayor Jasiel Correia II. Malone is expected to meet this morning with President of the Fall River Educator’s Association President Rebecca Cusick, and other groups to discuss a myriad education-related issues.
The contract includes 25 vacation and 14 sick days that can be accumulated if unused. Any annual raises will be tied to the Regional Consumer Price Index. Malone waived district provided health insurance benefits during his first year.
At the time the contract was signed, Malone acknowledged the challenges facing the School Department over the next two months, which includes hiring seven (7) school principals, a new chief operating officer, and special education director. Other central office staff members will also need to be hired.
Meanwhile, Malone will work within the constraints of a school budget that meets net school spending requirements – a budget that was passed this week by the full city council.
