The newly hired Director of the city’s Department of Community Maintenance signed a contract today, according to the Correia administration. This a week after the City Council Subcommittee on Ordinances and Legislation raised objections over salary and procedures.

The contract is not fully executed yet, but the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Christopher Paryno said that the new hire Christopher Okafor came to Government Center Tuesday, April 26th and “Signed a contract.”

The document is expected to be made public today.

Parayno indicated that the salary may be lower than $110 thousand dollars, but would not elaborate.

Okafor is from New Bedford, and has worked in this field for approximately 25 years. He is scheduled to being the new job in Fall River May 16th. He has worked as DPW Director and Operations Manager for the past Three years and his salary this year is $93 thousand dollars.
